I have been thinking about hidden things lately. It all started with the beautiful fall colors. Did you know that those colors are present all summer long but are concealed under all that green chlorophyll? When it gets cold, chlorophyll is no longer produced and we get to see what’s underneath. If I had engineered the Autumn, would I have thought to hide a surprise before the leaves disappeared for the winter? I doubt it. But God did.
Autumn is long gone in Vermont. In fact we’ve had good snow already and our local ski mountain is in full swing. In November we ventured south a bit for the arrival of our new grandson, a beautiful baby who grew inside his mom, hidden from view for nine months until just the right time. Again, this is a wonderful miracle, engineered by God. The little person who emerges from the hidden place, so intricate and complex, so wonderfully formed and made is a blessing beyond imagining.
And then there is the miracle we celebrate at Christmas, when God sent his only Son Jesus, whose deity was veiled in human flesh so He could die as a sinless God/man to atone for our sins. What a mystery! What a gift! I pray you know this One, born as a babe in a manger to become Savior of the world.
