It’s been a busy summer. Thanks to all of you faithful readers who still check on me now and then.
We had a good steady-over night rain recently. This always brings out the salamanders. I can count on seeing red efts but this day was a banner day. We “rescued” one large one and at least a dozen tiny ones from the middle of the road. The one in the photo was about 1″ long.
And the most exciting thing was finding this small spotted salamander – in the road. They are rarely seen and spend the vast majority of their lives under ground. What a treat to see this one.
We saw several caterpillars, a brown fuzzy one whose picture was too blurry to post, and this fabulous green striped one. Don’t you wonder what he’ll grow up to be?
Fall is not far away. The tell-tale signs are there, even though we are in denial. The nights are cool and crisp and the stars are amazing. And here and there are tiny little touches of red and gold, foreshadowing hues to come.
Along with all that inspiring beauty, nature is making its own art prints.
Thanks for sharing our walk. So glad to have your company.
