Winter

At least that’s what the calendar says.  I took a drive to Middlebury, Vermont recently.  This lovely college town is north and west of where I live and I was very surprised at the lack of snow there.  Not only NO snow, but no piles of snow, no residue.  It looked for all the world like early November rather than early February.  Here at least we have snow cover.  It isn’t deep but it is white.  This has been an odd winter.  Last year at this time we had had over 60″ of snow fall; this year to date we have had 25″, and most of that followed by warmer temps and rain to wash it all away.

Last week we had an ice storm which wielded destructive power but created a beautiful wonderland.  This was the view out our window.  Pretty, isn’t it?

Yes, it is so beautiful! And we can’t believe the mild winter either. We’ve had nothing more than a few inches of snow which quickly melted. Last winter we didn’t even SEE the ground for a couple months. And one day last week it was in the high 50s. But the school kids are thrilled — unused snow days will be added to Easter or summer vacations. I think I’m ready for a good old fashioned snowed in day or two, though. Best wishes from New York to Vermont!

No more than about 10 inches either here in Morrisville. I actually miss the huge drifts and climbing the driveway piles to go snowshoeing. It feels really odd. In michigan I left behind green grass that was confused as to what season it is!

    Beautiful sunshine though!

Warm in Florida and no snow either !! We’ve had a beautiful winter. But, tomorrow we head to Ct and hoping and hoping the cold and snow and ice stays away for the next 10 days or so…..but Murphey’s Law might just be in charge.! I worry about the various fruit trees and such that need the cold weather. Glad to read your blog again.

This snowless winter is just fine with me, especially after what we went though last winter. Other than the disastrous Halloween storm we’ve been almost snow free.
