Will Spring ever come?

After welcoming our new little grandchild Nathaniel, we settled in to wait for Winter’s demise and the advent of Spring (better know as Mud Season). We have chosen to sugar again this year. The sap is running well- we’re collecting about 14 gallons each day in our 25 bucket taps and boiling it down every couple of days at our friends’ sugar house. We finished the first batch today – 3 precious pints of golden sweetness. This means that Spring is near. When the temps rise above freezing during the day, our wonderful dirt road softens into a mucky mess full of ruts and pot holes. This also means that Spring is near. But somehow we keep waking up to several inches of snow overnight. Winter just doesn’t want to let go, I guess. But it will. Eventually.
I’ve been busy in my studio making little sculptured birds ala Terry Grant. Her pattern and directions were published in Quilt Festival Quilt Scene magazine and I’ve been wanting to try it out. I didn’t have quite the right materials on hand and I had enlarged the pattern incorrectly, but I couldn’t wait and made this little green fellow. He’s brightening up my dreary days while I wait for Spring. Pretty cute, huh? Even if he is a little smaller than normal.  I’ve finished a red one of the correct size and plan to make a few more.  Stay tuned for the rest of the flock.
