More flowers

After the violets, I was plum out of flowers, so I went to the florist yesterday to see what I might be inspired to paint next.   I couldn’t believe that all they could offer me were two buckets of mums, a bucket of those little Peruvian lilies (alstroemeria) that are common in bouquets, a few roses and a bucket of calla lilies. Their large walk in cooler is full of stuff for Christmas wreath making. Really?  Oh, the joys of living in rural Vermont. I bought two stems of Calla lilies, one yellow and one orange. They were left over from a wedding and were inexpensive because they’ll only last another few days.

It took me two days to paint them – I wanted them together on one page because I thought it would look better that way and they are the same after all, just different colors.  It was hard to paint a view of the inside, especially on the orange one because it is so deep so I painted it from the side.  I tried a little different border this time and I think it helps the overall look of the composition.

I think I’ll see what they have at the grocery store for tomorrow.  I might just have to paint mums and alstroemeria unless they have something more interesting.  I can’t imagine…

    Lynne –
Your drawings are amazing! Thank you for sharing them – and should I ever have a wall where I could display some art, I’d come calling to your sketch book! LOVE THEM!!!!
Hope the grocery store has some new practice flowers for you!
