A lovely day at the orchard

James and Jenna wanted to pick pumpkins.  So I did some searching on the internet for places nearby and we set a date to visit Wellwood Orchards in Springfield, VT.  It was a lovely day: clear blue skies and sunshine, a breeze and glorious Autumn color.

We were hungry when we got to the orchard.  I bought a small block of cheese, a small bag of Macoun apples and secured a plastic knife.  The cheese was a tangy cheddar and wonderful; the apples were crisp, juicy and sweet.  A perfect lunch.

Then we asked where the pumpkin patch was.  Somehow I must have misread the website; there was no patch.  We got to choose from the wagon outside.  Phooey.

So what do we do now?  Oh, let’s pick apples.  Jenna’s mom wanted some red delicious apples so we decided to pick them rather than just buy a bag.  What fun!  And it was so fun that we decided to pick a 1/2 bushel bag of Macouns as well.   Those trees were a bit of a walk away so we got some good exercise too.  A good time was had by all and there’s warm apple crisp for dinner.  Yum!
